Located in the heart of downtown San José, 55 South is a locally loved and respected craft-cocktail lounge known for its warm hospitality, creative drinks and elevated nightlife experience. We take pride in developing and serving expertly made cocktails with seasonal ingredients, an extensive whiskey & spirits collection, all in a comfortable, vibrant space that transitions from relaxed evenings to very busy weekends.

Position Overview

We’re seeking experienced and passionate bartenders to join our team at 55 South. The ideal candidate is confident, outgoing, professional, and knowledgeable about classic and modern cocktails. You’ll be crafting signature drinks, engaging guests, and helping create the welcoming, high-energy atmosphere that makes 55 South a downtown favorite, with stellar hospitality and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve craft cocktails, beer, and wine according to 55 South standards
• Provide exceptional hospitality and create a memorable guest experience
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar area
• Handle cash and POS transactions accurately
• Support opening, closing, and shift change procedures
• Uphold all health, safety, and alcohol service regulations

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and multitasking skills
• Be eager to learn and display a willingness to expand your techniques and skills.
• Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset
• Must be 21+ and possess valid food handler and responsible beverage service certifications (RBS/TIPS)

Training

• Bartending experience while not required will help your advancement within the 55 South Bar Program (craft-cocktail or high-volume experience will also help)
• Comprehensive Barback & Bartender Training
• Mentorship Program for new barbacks & bartenders
• Strong knowledge of spirits, cocktail techniques and trends
• Access to spirit training, tasting and education from industry professionals

Schedule & Compensation

• Evenings and weekends required
• Flexible scheduling, hourly + tips
