About Us:
Gardiner Bakehouse is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our Barista team. If you are passionate about coffee, artisanal bread and pastries, and are interested in sustainable food systems – we want to hear from you!

Position Overview:
As a Barista at Gardiner Bakehouse, you will be an integral part of our front-of-house team, delivering high-quality, consistent coffee and espresso-based drinks to our customers. In addition to crafting exceptional drinks, you may also perform cashier duties and other counter service responsibilities. Your role will involve creating a seamless and enjoyable experience for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and serve classic espresso-based drinks with precision and consistency.
• Operate the cash register, process transactions accurately, and manage cash handling procedures.
• Educate customers on our offerings, including serving artisanal pastries and breads.
• Provide excellent customer service, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
• Provide assistance to the baking and back-of-house team as needed.
• Assist with opening and closing duties
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations and a positive work environment.
• Uphold Gardiner Bakehouse’s commitment to sustainable food systems and community building.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a barista is required. Experience at an independent (non-chain) coffee shop is strongly preferred.
• Experience in cashier duties and handling food service is a plus.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Passion for artisanal food and commitment to sustainability.
• Ability to work mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed; this position requires an ongoing commitment to work at least one weekend day.

Compensation:

• Base pay is $17/hour plus pooled tips (avg. of additional $3-$4/hour).
• Full shifts include a half hour paid break, comped sandwich and beverage.
• Employees earn Accrued Paid Time Off.
• 20% discount on all items made in-house.
