ABOUT US
The Cafe has been a Minneapolis institution for over 35 years — one of the first organic restaurants in the country and a pioneer in allergen-friendly, whole-food dining. We don't just serve food. We serve food people can actually trust: gluten-free, vegan, organic options made with real ingredients, for guests who count on us to get it right.
Our café is a neighborhood gathering place — the kind of spot where regulars know the staff by name and first-timers leave feeling like they found something special. The people behind the counter are a big reason why. That's where you come in.
THE ROLE
As a Barista & Cashier, you're often the first and last impression a guest has of us. You'll craft quality drinks, handle transactions, and hold the front-of-house energy together — all while genuinely caring about the people you're serving. This isn't just a coffee job. It's a hospitality role in a place that actually stands for something.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
At the Bar
- Prepare and serve espresso drinks, drip coffee, teas, and specialty beverages to French Meadow's quality standards
- Follow drink recipes consistently while bringing your own care and attention to every cup
- Maintain bar cleanliness, equipment calibration, and product freshness throughout your shift
- Stay current on seasonal menu offerings and confidently share them with guests
At the Register
- Greet every guest warmly — make them feel seen, not processed
- Take orders accurately, answer menu questions knowledgeably (including allergen and dietary inquiries)
- Operate our POS system (Toast) for dine-in, takeout, and online order pickup
- Handle cash, card, and digital payments accurately; reconcile your drawer at shift end
On the Floor
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming café environment
- Support food prep, stocking, and restocking as needed throughout the day
- Cross-train across stations so you can flex where the team needs you
- Follow all food safety and allergen protocols — this is non-negotiable at French Meadow
As a Team Member
- Show up on time, in uniform, and ready to contribute — not just clock in
- Communicate clearly with teammates and managers during transitions and busy periods
- Bring a positive attitude that makes the shift better for everyone around you
WHO YOU ARE
We can train technique. What we're really looking for is someone who:
- Genuinely enjoys people — guests, teammates, the whole thing
- Takes pride in doing small things well: the right temperature, the right greeting, the right energy
- Stays calm and focused when it's slammed and keeps moving when it's slow
- Gets why our menu matters — organic ingredients, allergen awareness, dietary inclusion — and can speak to it authentically
- Cares about being part of something, not just working a job
