Barista & Food Prep (Part-Time)

Social House Café is a high-quality neighborhood café focused on precision coffee, consistent latte art, and well-prepared food. We are seeking an experienced barista who takes pride in craftsmanship and consistency.

Schedule

• Thursday to Sunday
• 24–32 hours per week
• Availability between 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Consistent schedule discussed at interview
• 30-minute unpaid meal break

Compensation

• Starting at $18/hour + tips (potential up to ~$25/hour total)

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS (DO NOT APPLY IF NOT MET)

• Valid NYC Department of Health Food Protection Certificate (NYC)
• Latte Art: Proven ability to execute consistent, precise latte art on every drink
• (must confidently pour rosettes, tulips, hearts, etc. during service — not occasional)

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years barista experience
• Comfortable on manual espresso machines (dialing in shots, adjusting grind)
• Food Prep and Plating
• Strong understanding of coffee, milk texturing, and drink consistency
• Experience with food prep in a café setting
• Key holder / opening & closing experience preferred
• Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
• Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Customer Service and Customer Experience

Friendly, professional, and detail-oriented with strong customer service and customer experience skills. Creates a welcoming environment, communicates clearly, and stays efficient under pressure while maintaining a consistent, high-quality customer experience.

Food Preparation & Presentation

In addition to coffee, we prepare fresh breakfast and lunch sandwiches and salads. Baristas are expected to handle food prep and plate items neatly and consistently, taking pride in presentation. Attention to detail, cleanliness, and maintaining quality during busy periods are essential.

Responsibilities

• Open/close café as key holder following procedures
• Prepare espresso drinks with consistent latte art on every order
• Prepare and plate light café food (sandwiches, pastries, etc.)
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards
• Provide professional and friendly customer service
• Operate POS, restock inventory, and support daily operations

Physical Requirements

• Standing for extended periods
• Lifting up to 50 lbs
• Bending, reaching, climbing, stairs, and moving throughout the café
