About Off The Record

Some of life’s greatest moments are marked with music — the kind that elicits a rush of nostalgia and emotion with a single familiar note. That’s the premise of Off The Record. It’s the Valley’s first and only group singalong bar where the crowd is the entertainment. There are no karaoke machines. No solos. Just an entire room singing the most memorable anthems of all time, all together — all guided by professional DJs who have perfected the art of engaging and entertaining. It’s an immersive, inclusive experience for music lovers who crave connection and a place to sing their hearts out — alongside strangers who instantly feel like forever friends. Off The Record brings the joy of shared music to the heart of Phoenix, creating the kind of nights people want to replay again and again.

In short... We run DJ-led sing-along events where the energy never stops and the bar never slows down. If a packed room full of people singing at the top of their lungs sounds like your ideal work environment, read on.

The Role

Our bars are front-of-house and fully visible to the room — you are part of the show. We operate a team service model (tip pool): servers own the floor and tables, and bartenders own the bar and the builds. The majority of drink orders come in through our server team rather than directly from guests, which means your primary job is high-speed, high-accuracy production — tickets in, perfect drinks out, no lag.

Walk-up guests happen and you’ll handle them with the same energy you bring to everything else. But the person we’re looking for measures a great shift by output, not conversation — and brings the personality that makes the room more alive.

You are part of the party — not just the bar

This is not a stand-behind-the-bar-and-pour job. At Off The Record, staff energy is part of the product. When the DJ drops a banger and the room erupts, we expect our bartenders to erupt with it — pump a fist, mouth the words, throw your hands up. Guests feed off staff energy and our staff feed off the crowd. That loop is what makes a great night.

  • You are not required to perform — you are expected to be genuine. If you love music and naturally feel it, this will come easily. If you have to force it, this probably isn’t the right fit.
  • Sing-along moments, crowd call-and-response, hands in the air — your bar faces the room and the room is watching. Own it.
  • High energy for a full late-night shift is a requirement, not a bonus. The last hour should feel the same as the first.

What you’ll do

  • Produce a high volume of cocktails and shots from server tickets with speed and accuracy — target under 90 seconds per build at peak
  • Handle occasional walk-up orders with speed and warmth without losing pace on server tickets
  • Jigger every pour, every time — we run a tight pour cost and that starts at the stick
  • Own your station: full opening par check, clean ice wells, garnish builds stocked before doors, speed rail set your way
  • Be present in the room — when a sing-along moment hits, you’re part of it, not invisible behind the bar
  • Observe responsible alcohol service standards — you’re on the floor, you’re visible, and you are the last line of defense
  • Log all waste and remakes in real time and complete full closing SOP before signing off

What we’re looking for

Must have

  • 2+ years of high-volume bar experience — nightclub, concert venue, festival bar, or event bar preferred
  • You know what 200+ covers in a 4-hour window feels like and you don’t blink at it
  • Solid cocktail knowledge — classics, shots, and well builds; menu-fluent without looking anything up
  • High energy, outgoing personality — you bring the room up just by being in it
  • Genuine love of music — not a requirement to have a perfect playlist, but you have to actually feel it
  • Reliable and punctual — every shift, every time. 21+ with valid AZ ID.

Strong plus

  • Nightclub, live music venue, or entertainment bar background specifically
  • You’ve worked in an environment where staff were part of the entertainment, not just the service
  • Experience with responsible alcohol service and spotting intoxication in a fast-moving crowd

This role is not for you if

  • You stand still behind the bar and let the energy come to you — here you bring the energy to the room
  • Loud music and a screaming crowd for 5+ hours sounds exhausting rather than exhilarating
  • Free-pouring is your default and jigger discipline feels like a cage — it’s non-negotiable here
  • Dancing and singing along while you work sounds unprofessional to you — here it’s part of the job description
