Position Summary
The Bartender is responsible for delivering exceptional beverage service and hospitality to members and guests of The Powelton Club. This role serves as a key ambassador of the Club’s social atmosphere by creating a welcoming environment, building member relationships, and delivering consistent, high-quality beverage experiences.Bartenders are expected to demonstrate professionalism, beverage knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to service excellence while maintaining Club standards for safety, cleanliness, and responsible alcohol service.
Essential Responsibilities
Beverage Service & Hospitality
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to Club recipes and standards
- Greet members and guests promptly and professionally
- Build rapport with members by learning names, preferences, and beverage selections
- Recommend cocktails, wines, beers, and specialty beverages
- Deliver attentive service while maintaining an engaging and welcoming atmosphere
- Serve lounge guests when beverage servers are unavailable or during slower service periods
- Monitor guest satisfaction and respond promptly to requests
Bar Operations
- Complete all opening, operating, and closing procedures
- Maintain proper stock levels of liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, and supplies
- Prepare garnishes, mixes, and bar mise en place before service
- Properly record beverage sales and maintain accurate POS transactions
- Follow inventory control and revenue protection procedures
- Assist with beverage inventories as requested
Cleanliness & Presentation
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional bar environment at all times
- Ensure bar equipment, glassware, refrigeration, and work areas remain clean and sanitary
- Properly label, date, rotate, and store all products
- Maintain an attractive and guest-ready appearance throughout service
Events & Club Support
- Support banquet, event, and special function beverage service as assigned
- Read and execute Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) accurately
- Assist with specialty beverage promotions, tastings, and Club events
- Support the overall success of the Food & Beverage operation through teamwork and flexibility
Member Engagement & Hospitality
The Bartender plays an important role in creating a vibrant social atmosphere within the Club.
This includes:
- Creating positive and memorable interactions with members and guests
- Promoting Club events, specials, and beverage features
- Providing feedback and ideas that enhance the member experience
- Contributing to a welcoming environment that encourages members to gather and socialize
Operational Expectations
- Arrive prepared and in proper uniform
- Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and composure during busy service periods
- Maintain awareness of responsible alcohol service practices
- Follow all Club policies, state laws, and safety requirements
- Work cooperatively with servers, kitchen staff, and management
- Participate in training sessions, staff meetings, and pre-shift lineups
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum one year bartending experience preferred
- Knowledge of cocktails, beer, wine, and responsible alcohol service
- Strong communication and hospitality skills
- Basic POS proficiency preferred
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Licenses & Certifications
- TIPS Alcohol Certification required. Candidates who are not currently certified must obtain certification immediately upon hire.
- Must meet legal requirements for the handling and service of alcoholic beverages and comply with all club policies regarding beverage preparation, and quality assurance.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced restaurant and club environment
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Frequent bending, lifting, reaching, and repetitive motion
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Exposure to noise, heat, and busy service conditions
Pay: $26.00 - $35.00 per hour
