The Data Center Solutions Division US is ATS’ center of excellence for software-based monitoring, control, and automation solutions serving data center customers globally. The division exists to unify, standardize, and scale ATS’ data center capabilities across solution architecture, product strategy, engineering methodology, delivery execution, and lifecycle support.
Working closely with the ATS Delivery Center, regional ATS divisions, global technology partners, and customer project teams, the division ensures consistency, quality, repeatability, and operational excellence across data center projects. Its mission is to evolve data center delivery into a scalable, repeatable business model that improves customer experience, strengthens lifecycle partnerships, and positions ATS as a long-term controls, monitoring, and infrastructure automation partner for the global data center market.
The Role:
ATS is seeking an experienced Lead Cooling Controls & Solutions Design Engineer with deep expertise in data center mechanical cooling systems, controls architecture, and mission-critical infrastructure operation.
This role will serve as a technical design authority for cooling system controls and integrated data center control solutions, with responsibility for translating mechanical design intent, owner requirements, and operational sequences into executable BAS/BMS, PLC, SCADA, and integration strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Design control system architecture across BAS/BMS, PLC, and SCADA environments.
- Define I/O structures, panel requirements, controller selection, network topology, communication architecture, and integration strategies.
- Support interoperability across BACnet, Modbus, OPC, EtherNet/IP, and related industrial communication protocols.
- Create and/or lead the development of control drawings, network architecture diagrams, panel layouts, I/O lists, control schematics, instrumentation lists, points lists, BOMs, sequence documentation, and integration matrices.
- Support standards development for repeatable data center controls architectures, cooling system templates, engineering methods, FAT procedures, SAT procedures, and commissioning documentation.
- Evaluate cooling system performance under normal operation, maintenance operation, partial-load conditions, failure conditions, and integrated testing scenarios.
- Identify gaps between mechanical design intent and controls execution before they become field issues.
Qualifications:
- Experience designing, commissioning, troubleshooting, or operating control systems in BAS/BMS, PLC, or SCADA environments.
- Familiarity with platforms such as Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Rockwell, Siemens PLC, or similar systems.
- 8+ years of experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial controls, or complex mechanical infrastructure environments.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical drawings, control schematics, sequences of operation, specifications, and commissioning scripts.
- Bachelor's in Mechanical/Electrical/Controls engineering or related field.
