Purpose
Operates batching equipment and supports daily production operations under the supervision of the Lead Batchman. Assists in producing quality ready-mix concrete products according to established specifications and company standards. This role requires attention to detail, basic mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work safely in a fast-paced production environment.

Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:
  • Operates computer batching software to produce concrete from raw ingredients and additives according to predetermined specifications under the direction of the Lead Batchman.
  • Verifies correct admixtures are used in correct dosages and ensures concrete batched meets specifications established by company and customer.
  • Performs data entry of materials received and maintains accurate records, including printing delivery tickets as directed.
  • Batches quality concrete within specifications and reports any variances in batching or plant performance to the Lead Batchman immediately.
  • Assists in monitoring plant stock levels and communicates material needs to the Lead Batchman.
  • Communicates with ready-mix drivers regarding load specifications and delivery schedules.
  • Assists in tracking material usage and maintaining production records.
  • Loads and operates equipment as needed under supervision.
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance tasks to keep the plant and yard areas organized and safe.
  • Assists with environmental SWPPP testing and compliance activities as directed.
  • Follows all safety policies, procedures, and regulations (OSHA, DOT) and participates in safety inspections.
  • Supports the Lead Batchman with various operational tasks as assigned.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with drivers, dispatch, and plant personnel.

Role Qualifications & Requirements

Education:
  • High school Diploma or equivalent experience
Experience and Industry Expertise:
  • 1-2 years ready-mix, aggregates, construction, or willingness to learn with mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic understanding of safety regulations (MSHA, OSHA, DOT) or ability to obtain through company training

Specific Job Requirements:
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn batching software systems
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Basic understanding of batching operations or ability to learn quickly
  • Familiarity with or ability to learn operation of forklifts and front-end loaders (certification required)
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Equipment Used, Physical Demands, and Work Environment

Equipment Used:
  • General office equipment, telephone, automobile, personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses, hearing protection) when visiting plants.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical: Sitting for long periods of time working on the computer or attending meetings. Job site visits require walking on uneven ground, steep slopes, and exposure to extreme temperature and/or humidity. Some lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Work Environment: Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Exposed to the conditions of job sites which can include loud noise, dust, fumes, and extreme weather conditions prevalent at the time. May work various hours, including early mornings, dusk or evenings.
