All permanent full-time positions work 24-hour shifts and live at the station during their shift. CCFR has two (2) live-in stations, the Juneau station located in downtown Juneau, and the Glacier station located near the Juneau International Airport. In addition, we have Douglas, Auke Bay, and Lynn Canal Stations.ADDITIONAL TESTINGSuccessful candidates must pass Phase 1 of the selection process by meeting the minimum qualifications outlined below, passing a preliminary interview, and passing a criminal background check. Once this is accomplished, they will move to Phase 2 of the selection process, where we will travel them to Juneau to participate in an Assessment Center, and where they must also pass a psychological evaluation, and pass a physical “fit for duty” medical exam.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The Battalion Chief is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing fire department operations within an assigned battalion. Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Operations, you will serve as the highest-ranking command officer on duty—leading emergency response efforts, supervising personnel, and ensuring operational excellence across all functions.This role requires a confident decision-maker who thrives in high-pressure environments and is committed to fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.Typical duties of a Battalion Chief include: Operational Leadership & Emergency ResponseCommand emergency incidents and coordinate response strategiesDeploy personnel, apparatus, and resources effectivelyEnsure compliance with safety standards and operational protocolsSupport fire suppression, EMS, hazardous materials, and rescue operationsConduct inspections, fire investigations (non-criminal), and public education outreachTeam Leadership & SupervisionSupervise company officers and assigned staffOversee staffing, scheduling, and battalion coverageIntegrate and support volunteer firefighters within operationsConduct performance evaluations and guide professional developmentMaintain discipline, accountability, and high performance standardsTraining & DevelopmentLead and support fire, rescue, and leadership training programsEnsure personnel maintain certifications and required competenciesConduct incident debriefings and continuous improvement initiativesParticipate in hiring and promotional processesAdministration & Strategic PlanningContribute to departmental strategy, policy development, and budgetingOversee compliance with OSHA and regulatory standardsManage reporting, documentation, and performance trackingCoordinate with partner agencies and support emergency planning effortsEnsure accurate incident reporting, asset management, and personnel documentation
