Job Summary:

The Battery Test Lab Technician is responsible for supporting lab operations involving battery systems, UPS equipment, and load banks. This role includes testing, troubleshooting, and handling customer-returned products, as well as assisting with customer witness testing and training activities. The technician will play a critical role in ensuring equipment performance, reliability, and proper documentation of results.

Key Responsibilities:

Lab Operations & Equipment Handling:

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab equipment including UPS systems, battery systems, and load banks.
  • Set up, configure, and execute electrical and performance tests on battery and power systems.
  • Ensure all lab equipment is functioning safely and within calibration requirements.

Testing & Evaluation:

  • Test warranty return units and determine disposition (repair or scrap).
  • Evaluate products potentially damaged during shipping and document findings.
  • Record, analyze, and report test data accurately.

Customer Witness Testing Support:

  • Receive incoming systems for witness testing.
  • Unpack, inspect, and connect systems for testing.
  • Assist during customer witness tests, ensuring proper setup and operation.
  • Disconnect, repack, and coordinate handoff to shipping after testing.

Training & Support:

Assist with internal or customer training classes as needed.

Field Support (as needed):

Support occasional field deployments for testing, troubleshooting, or commissioning activities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical, Electronics, or related field (or equivalent military experience/training).
  • Experience: Hands-on experience with electrical systems, batteries, or power equipment.

Skills:

  • Basic understanding of DC systems, UPS systems, and electrical safety practices.
  • Ability to use standard electrical test equipment (multimeters, load banks, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Third Party or OEM UPS Experience (at least 5 years).
  • Experience with battery technologies (VRLA, lithium-ion, etc.).
  • Familiarity with data acquisition or test software.
  • Experience working in a lab or test environment.
