B/D & P/I Liability Examiner
POSITION SUMMARY
Determines liability and damages for bodily injury and property damage claims, including investigating claims, communicating with involved parties, setting reserves, and settling with claimants and attorneys.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Confers with involved parties in order to investigate and compile pertinent claim information.
- Investigates bodily injury and property damage claims and negotiates settlements based upon applicable laws.
- Determines liability and sets reserves for bodily injury and property damages claims.
- Investigates extent of property damage and reviews repair estimates to ensure charges match the degree of property loss.
- Prepares and submits arbitration summaries.
- Works with outside counsel to manage litigation related to bodily injury and property damage claims
- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships.
- Utilizes software and social media tools in the handling and investigation of claims.
- Takes after-hours calls relating to accidents and injuries or other safety related issues.
- Travels as needed to attend depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials.
- Solves problems and makes decisions independently and proactively.
- Performs work requiring advanced knowledge while consistently exercising discretion and judgment.
- Manages multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Receives and carries out instructions.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry, including costs of repairs and the repair process.
- Possesses knowledge of claims processes, including negligence laws in assigned states.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree; and three to four years of bodily injury and/or transportation-related claims adjusting experience; equivalent combination of other education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times.
