Overview
We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, and professional Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) / Mental Health Technician (MHT) to join our team at an Adult Residential Treatment Center (RTC) in Arkansas. This role provides direct care and behavioral support to adult clients (ages 18 and older) diagnosed with mental health or co-occurring behavioral conditions. The BHT is a critical part of the treatment team and helps maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide supervision, support, and engagement to adult clients throughout the day
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, grooming, and meal routines
- Observe and document client behaviors, mood changes, and interactions accurately and in a timely manner
- Implement behavior management strategies and therapeutic interventions as directed by clinical staff
- Respond calmly and effectively to crisis situations using approved de-escalation techniques
- Monitor the safety and security of the facility, including conducting routine room and safety checks
- Support clients during group activities, recreational programming, and therapeutic exercises
- Assist in transporting clients to appointments or off-site activities when needed
- Uphold professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of client living areas and common spaces
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing education sessions
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required
- Preferred: Associate's degree or higher in psychology, social work, or a related behavioral health field
- Experience:
- At least 6 months of experience in mental health, substance abuse treatment, corrections, or a residential facility preferred
- Experience working with adults with serious mental illness (SMI), personality disorders, or co-occurring disorders a plus
- Certifications:
- Must have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire
- Crisis prevention/intervention training (e.g., CPI or Handle With Care) required or provided upon hire
- Other Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Ability to pass Arkansas DHS background checks (including Central Registry and Adult Maltreatment Registry)
- Physically able to perform de-escalation techniques and assist in emergencies
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime

- Structured residential facility setting with 24/7 staffing
- May involve exposure to unpredictable behaviors and high-stress situations
- Requires standing, walking, bending, and occasional physical interventions

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
