Behavioral & Emotional Development Specialist

Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Behavioral & Emotional Development Teacher to join our dynamic educational team. In this vital role, you will design and implement tailored strategies to support children’s behavioral and emotional growth, fostering a positive learning environment that promotes resilience, social skills, and emotional regulation. Duties

  • Develop individualized behavior plans aligned with each student’s IEP (Individualized Education Program) to support behavioral health and emotional development.
  • Implement behavioral therapy techniques and behavior management strategies to promote positive behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors.
  • Conduct assessments of students’ emotional and behavioral needs through observations, standardized testing, and collaboration with specialists.
  • Design engaging lesson plans that incorporate literacy education, math, social skills, and emotional regulation activities tailored for children with disabilities.
  • Provide speech therapy support and coordinate with speech-language pathologists when necessary to enhance communication skills.
  • Manage classroom environments effectively to ensure safety, engagement, and inclusivity for students with autism, developmental disabilities, or other special needs.
  • Mentor and support students through tutoring, early intervention programs, and mentoring initiatives to foster confidence and independence.
  • Collaborate with families to develop comprehensive strategies for behavior management at home and school.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, conduct regular reviews of IEP goals, and prepare reports for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support the integration of library services or Montessori methods where applicable to enrich the learning experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Childhood Development, Psychology, or a related field; advanced certifications preferred.
  • Proven classroom experience working with children with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental delays, or behavioral health challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of behavior management techniques, behavioral therapy methods, and early intervention strategies.
  • Experience developing curriculum that includes literacy education, math skills, social-emotional learning, and standardized testing preparation.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with students, families, therapists, and colleagues.
  • Ability to create a supportive classroom environment that encourages positive behavior and emotional growth.
  • Familiarity with IEP development processes and documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of deaf education principles or Montessori methods is a plus but not required.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
