Behavioral Health Data Engineer
Salary: $98,159 - $112,883
Welfare Research, Inc. d/b/a WRI Solutions is seeking one (1) qualified candidate to fill the full-time position of Behavioral Health Data Engineer to support cross-bureau solution implementation projects.
The Division of Mental Hygiene (Div. MHY) is focused on upgrading and modernizing its data and digital assets to deliver quality behavioral health care user experience. The Head of Behavioral Health Data Technology.is tasked to implement priorities directly related with modernization of MHY data infrastructure that is flexible & modular; easy to update; easy to understand; easier to make open source; easier to integrate with existing systems; easier to share & reuse and performs similar operations consistently. This new modern infrastructure should be future proof and support all proposed strategic plan activities articulated and enumerated in DOHMH work plans. Additionally, we aim to reduce manual inefficient processes. In our quest to democratize data access based on the FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) principle, the Data Engineer is expected to work collaboratively with staff, contractors, partner agencies, and stakeholders. The Data Engineer will be responsible for the coordination, implementation, and completion of projects while remaining aligned with the mission and strategy of the division.
Position Summary
The BH-DE will report and work under the direction of the Head of Behavioral Health Data Technology. Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data integration solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Python, Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, and API integrations, and will be responsible for building reliable data workflows that support analytics, reporting, and business intelligence initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
· Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and SSIS.
· Develop and optimize SQL Server databases, including writing complex queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
· Integrate data from multiple sources, including RESTful APIs, databases, and external data feeds.
· Build automated data ingestion processes and ensure data quality, integrity, and reliability.
· Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize existing data pipelines and ETL processes.
· Collaborate with data analysts, BI developers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
· Implement data validation, logging, and error handling mechanisms.
· Maintain documentation for data pipelines, workflows, and data architecture.
· Support data warehouse and reporting environments.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
· 3+ years of experience in data engineering or data integration roles.
· Strong proficiency in Python for data processing and automation.
· Advanced experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including:
- T-SQL
- Stored procedures
- Query optimization
· Hands-on experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL development.
· Experience working with REST APIs for data extraction and integration.
· Understanding of data modeling, ETL concepts, and data warehousing principles.
· Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
Preferred Skills:
· Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
· Knowledge of Azure Data Factory or other ETL tools.
· Familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).
· Experience with CI/CD pipelines for data workflows
Remote Work Policy: DOHMH employees working through WRI are allowed a Hybrid option post training and onboarding.
