The Opportunity

Catherine’s is actively seeking a Behavioral Health Provider who will assist in Catherine’s mission and goal to provide high quality behavioral health care to the underserved in the community. Job Title: Behavioral Health Provider – School Based Health Center

Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Provider – School Based Health Centers provides students and their families with individual counseling as well as risk assessments to detect students at-risk. This position requires an independent license to practice in a healthcare setting. The Behavioral Health Provider is responsible for coordinating and supporting behavioral health care within the school center, coordinating referrals to clinically indicated services outside the clinic, and for collaborating with other behavioral health, community health, dental, and medical staff at all Catherine’s Health Center clinic sites. The Behavioral Health Provider should have the appropriate training and clinical licensure or certifications to be able to provide psychotherapeutic treatment.

Primary Location: Catherine’s Health Center – Crossroads High School

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assists educators and providers in recognizing and treating students’ behavioral health disorders and

psychological problems. Provides individual and group counseling, and information on community resources.

Assimilates the knowledge of resources available to implement clinical concepts. Documents treatment using

current and accurate ICD – Coding and CPT coding.

2. Works as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide student care and coordination. Consults and

collaborates with educators, site staff and providers regarding treatment plans and counseling referral

coordination.

3. Assists in detecting at-risk students. Assists in developing plans to prevent additional psychological and/or

physical deterioration.

4. Establishes and maintains a professional and therapeutic relationship within the standards of patient

profiles, confidentiality laws and the latest clinical research available.

5. May provide services at other Catherine’s Health Center sites as part of a multidisciplinary team. May

screen primary care patients as requested and develop plans of action to address presenting needs. May

propose and implement services to improve patient health and assist providers with treatment plan

implementation.

6. Assists in evaluating peers and staff. Participates in periodical evaluative reviews and/or in-house and

external trainings.

7. Adheres to professional standards as outlined by governmental bodies, the National Association of Social

Workers and/or other appropriate professional association, private funding sources, and HHC plans, policies,

procedures and guidelines.

8. Performs administrative tasks, as necessary, including copying, mailings, data entry, compiling data for

reports, filing, etc.

9. Other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Position Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and a valid Michigan License as clinical social worker (LMSW).
  • Licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) will be considered.
  • Bilingual preferred; and
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Requirements

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from a wide range of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain effective and professional relationships with patient and other members of the care team.
  • Experience with screening for common mental health and/or substance abuse disorders.
  • Working knowledge of differential diagnoses of common mental health and/or substance use disorders, when appropriate.
  • Ability to effectively engage patients in a therapeutic relationship.
  • Ability to work with patients by telephone or telehealth as well as in person.
  • Experience with assessment and treatment planning for common mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Working knowledge of evidence-based psychosocial treatments and brief behavioral interventions for common mental health disorders, when appropriate (e.g., motivational interviewing, problem-solving treatment, behavioral activation, CBT, and psychodynamics).
  • Basic knowledge of psychopharmacology for common mental health disorders that is within appropriate scope of practice for type of provider filling role.
  • Experience with evidence-based counseling techniques.
  • Strong motivational interviewing, verbal/written communication skills.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records a plus; and
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in a team setting.
