The Behavioral Health Transport Specialist (TPES) is responsible for safely transporting patients to and from the facility while providing a supportive, professional, and recovery‑focused experience. This role serves as both a transportation driver and a frontline engagement support staff member, ensuring patients feel welcomed, respected, and secure throughout the transportation process. The Transportation Engagement Specialist plays a key role in reinforcing program expectations, maintaining boundaries, and creating a positive, therapeutic environment from the moment patients enter the vehicle.
Transportation & Safety
- Provide safe, timely transportation for patients to and from assigned destinations, including the facility, appointments, legal obligations, community resources, and approved outings.
- Operate agency vehicles in compliance with state laws, company policies, and safety standards.
- Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections; document mileage, safety concerns, and maintenance needs.
- Ensure all passengers use seatbelts and follow safety guidelines at all times.
- Report any incidents, delays, hazards, or behavioral concerns immediately to supervisory staff.
Patient Engagement & Support
- Provide calm, professional support to patients during transportation, helping maintain a positive and therapeutic tone.
- Model appropriate boundaries, communication, and emotional regulation.
- Assist patients entering or exiting the vehicle when needed, while upholding safety and dignity.
- Reinforce facility rules, expectations, and behavioral guidelines during transport.
- Communicate respectfully and clearly with individuals who may be anxious, frustrated, or experiencing withdrawal or emotional distress.
Communication & Documentation
- Maintain accurate logs of transports, mileage, patient counts, and any incidents or concerns observed.
- Relay time‑sensitive information to nursing, admissions, PES staff, and leadership.
- Submit written incident reports when required, ensuring professional and objective documentation.
- Communicate route changes, delays, or patient‑related concerns promptly.
Professional Conduct & Boundary Management
- Maintain strict professional boundaries with all patients at all times.
- Avoid personal conversations, favoritism, or any behavior that may appear overly familiar.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient health information in accordance with HIPAA.
- Demonstrate reliability, integrity, and adherence to all company policies and ethical standards.
Team Collaboration
- Coordinate with PES staff, nursing, case management, and admissions to ensure smooth transportation flow.
- Participate in team meetings and trainings as requested.
- Support the overall operations of the facility when transportation duties are not active (optional based on employer needs).
