Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Behavioral Intervention and Learner Support Advocate to empower children with diverse needs through personalized behavioral strategies and supportive learning environments. The Behavioral Intervention and Learner Support Advocate provides direct support to learners with significant behavioral, emotional, and social needs in an alternative education environment. This position builds positive relationships with youth, implements proactive behavior interventions, assists in crisis situations, and serves as a mentor for learners who may have involvement with the juvenile justice system or other community agencies. In this vital role, you will collaborate closely with staff to foster positive development, enhance social skills, and promote independence. Your energy and commitment will help create a nurturing space where every child feels valued, understood, and motivated to reach their full potential.
This is a School Year-Only Position (Late August-Late May)
Duties
- Build trusting relationships with learners through daily mentorship, coaching, and positive role modeling.
- Implement individualized behavior support plans and de-escalation strategies tailored to each child's unique needs, especially those with disabilities or behavioral health challenges
- Respond to behavioral crises and safely participate in approved physical interventions when necessary and in accordance with district training and policy.
- Support children in various settings by applying evidence-based teaching techniques to improve social, emotional, and behavioral skills
- Mentor children through positive reinforcement strategies, encouraging growth and resilience in daily activities
- Mentor youth involved with the juvenile justice system or other at-risk populations, encouraging accountability and positive decision-making.
- Supervise learners in classrooms, community settings, and transition periods throughout the school day.
- Document behavioral incidents and communicate effectively with staff regarding student needs.
- Assist with attendance follow-up, student supervision, and other duties as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all district policies and procedures.
- Serve as a welcoming point of contact as needed by answering phones, greeting visitors, and providing professional customer service to families and community members.
Qualifications
- Experience working with adolescents exhibiting challenging behaviors in educational, residential, juvenile justice, or human services settings preferred.
- Ability to establish rapport with students through empathy, consistency, and accountability.
- Comfortable participating in crisis intervention and certified physical restraint procedures when necessary.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with students, families, staff, and the public.
- Excellent judgment, emotional resilience, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during high-stress situations.
- Experience with trauma-informed practices, restorative approaches, or behavior management systems preferred.
- High school diploma required; Minimum age 21
- Must have or be willing to get a Wisconsin Educational Assistant License
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and supervise learners throughout the school day.
- Ability to safely perform approved physical intervention techniques when required.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations and accompany learners in community-based activities.

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
