JOB TITLE: Behavioral Specialist
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Behavioral Specialist should meet one of the following:
1. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and six months of experience working with children/youth who have serious emotional or behavioral needs.
2. A minimum of an associate degree and one year of experience in working with children who have serious emotional or behavioral needs.
3. Completion of 15 semester (24 quarter) units of coursework from an accredited college in Psychology, Sociology, Social Welfare, Social/Human Services, or other Behavioral Sciences.
Experience: One year of full-time experience performing client directed services in either a social service, health care, or mental health agency/organization.
Other: Possession of a valid State driver’s license. Attainment of at least 21 years of age.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1) Interview minors and/or families to team with mental health professionals in determining the needs of individuals or groups.
2) Counsel minors and/or groups to develop social adjustment skills and to increase minors’ resolution of identified problems.
3) Visit service recipients, individually or as part of a team, in a variety of living situations to support clinician’s assessment of mental health needs of the minor and families and/or provide behavioral coaching for children and parents. Gather data from minor/family interviews, past records, other information, to gain understanding and verification of previous disorders and treatment episodes.
4) May act as a liaison between ALBA and other agencies, department, organizations, and community groups.
5) Maintains records and writes reports and summaries for service recipient records or other documentation.
6) Facilitate outings for children in care, home visits, and virtual visits.
7) Required to go to Victorville office once a week.
