Position Description
We are seeking a Proficient Behaviour Support Practitioner to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of Interim and Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans to reduce restrictive practices, managing complex support needs and mentoring stakeholders, family and community members to successfully implement behaviour support plans. They will have demonstrated capability to operate autonomously, engage a team of allied health care specialists, family members, other stakeholders and be able to effectively communicate with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island Peoples. They will have a demonstrated understanding of the Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework, The NDIS Practice Standards and Code of Conduct.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Conduct assessments to identify the root cause of challenging behaviours
• Develop and implement behaviour support plans tailored to individual needs
• Provide training and support to clients, families, and caregivers on behaviour management techniques
• Monitor progress and adjust support plans as necessary
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to care
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client progress and interventions
• Attend team meetings and participate in case conferences as required
Knowledge and Skills
• Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) principles and person-centred practices
• Experience conducting functional behaviour assessments (FBA) and analysing behavioural data
• Ability to develop and implement evidence-based behaviour support plans
• Understanding of restrictive practices and relevant NDIS and QLD legislation
• Strong written communication skills for professional reporting and documentation
• Ability to coach and support staff, carers, and families in behaviour support strategies
• Knowledge of disability types, including autism, intellectual disability, and dual diagnosis
• Skills in trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice
• Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills within multidisciplinary settings
• Strong organisational, time management, and reflective practice abilities
• Flexible working hours will be required based on the needs of the participants.
Qualifications/Experience
• WORK EXPERIENCE AS A PBS PRACTITIONER & NDIS registration.
• Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years' experience working with individuals with challenging behaviours
• Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and evidence-based interventions
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Compassionate and patient approach to working with clients
• Working with Children Check and NDISWC.
