Bench Tool Maker

The Bench Tool Maker is responsible for manufacturing, repairing, modifying, and maintaining precision tools, molds, fixtures, jigs, and mechanical components used in marine production and repair operations. The role supports marine fabrication, composite works, vessel maintenance, and engineering activities by ensuring all tools and components meet required marine industry standards and tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, and repair precision tools, molds, jigs, fixtures, and mechanical components for marine applications.
  • Perform bench fitting, filing, drilling, grinding, polishing, tapping, and finishing works.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical sketches, and marine fabrication plans.
  • Repair damaged tooling, molds, and fixtures used in boat building, composite works, and marine equipment manufacturing.
  • Operate conventional workshop machines such as lathe, milling, drilling, and grinding machines when required.
  • Conduct dimensional inspection using precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Assist in mold preparation, alignment, and fitting for fiberglass and composite marine products.
  • Ensure tools and fabricated components comply with quality and marine engineering standards.
  • Coordinate with production, fabrication, and engineering teams to resolve tooling issues.
  • Maintain workshop tools, equipment, and housekeeping in accordance with safety standards.
  • Follow company HSE procedures and marine workshop safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Technical Diploma or Certification in Tool & Die Making, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in tool making, preferably in marine, shipbuilding, fiberglass, or manufacturing industries.
  • Knowledge of marine fabrication processes and workshop practices.
  • Ability to read engineering and fabrication drawings.
  • Experience in precision fitting and tool repair.
  • Familiarity with composite molds and marine tooling is an advantage.
  • Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
