Essential Functions


The Benefits Administrator supports the administration and delivery of employee benefits programs by coordinating services, resolving issues, and ensuring accurate and timely processing across systems and partners at The University of Texas Permian Basin. This role serves as a key resource for employees, retirees, and internal stakeholders by providing guidance on benefits programs, supporting compliance efforts, and helping maintain data integrity. Working collaboratively with UT System partners, vendors, and campus departments, the position contributes to effective benefits operations and clear communication that supports employee understanding and engagement.

1. Administer benefits programs including health, retirement, wellness, ancillary benefits, and leave while supporting accurate and timely service delivery.
2. Serve as a primary contact and liaison with UT System, employees, retirees, plan vendors, and third-party administrators to coordinate services and resolve issues.
3. Research, investigate, and resolve employee benefits issues related to deductions, enrollment, eligibility, and coverage while documenting resolutions.
4. Support campus-level administration and implementation of benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and leave programs, including FMLA and coordination with ADA-related processes.
5. Coordinate and facilitate benefits orientations, annual enrollment, benefits fairs, and wellness activities and present benefits information clearly.
6. Develop, update, and distribute benefits communication materials including total rewards statements, guides, webinars, and FAQs in partnership with stakeholders.
7. Collaborate with UT System, HRIS, OGC, and Payroll to support accurate benefits administration and data integrity.
8. Support compliance and reporting efforts including monitoring processes, maintaining documentation, and assisting with ACA tracking and multi-state reviews.
9. Support the development and improvement of processes and internal controls to ensure effective administration of benefits programs.
10. Serve as a super user of benefits systems and perform daily processing including enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability and AD&D claims, rollovers, medical support orders, and distributions while supporting payroll deduction accuracy and reconciliation.
11. Prepare and support reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.

Required Qualifications


1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent experience.
2. Three (3) years of experience in employee benefits and retirement administration.


Preferred Qualifications


1. Five (5) years of Human Resources experience.
2. Completion of specialized certification or training in benefits administration.
3. Experience using PeopleSoft, Benefitfocus, or similar HRIS systems.
4. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.


Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
