About BenitoLink: BenitoLink is a free hyperlocal website focusing on news, information, events, ideas and discussion in San Benito County, California. An independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, BenitoLink is supported by donors, sponsors and grants. Its mission is to connect San Benito County residents through local news and information and encourage public dialogue to foster an engaged community. Its goal is to be San Benito County’s homepage, the first site people visit in the morning to see what’s happening in their hometown.

Summary Description: The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administrations, programs and strategic planning of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Applicants: please review the list of responsibilities below and indicate the areas in which you have the most experience. Candidates are not expected to have experience in every area listed. Candidates with experience in multiple areas, including journalism, are especially encouraged to apply.

  • BOARD: Attend all board, board committee and strategic planning meetings; help find potential board members.
  • SPONSORSHIPS/DONORS: Develop and maintain member, partner, sponsor, foundation and donor relationships. Meet with major donors several times a year.
  • GRANTS: Research and identify grant opportunities; write and edit grant proposals; track proposal deadlines and submission status.
  • STAFF: Recruit, select, hire, manage, evaluate and dismiss staff. Meet with marketing director about ads, events, newsletters and special publications; review website daily.
  • CONTRACTORS: Contracting with vendors and independent contractors.
  • FINANCES: Managing finances, keeping the board well-informed of budget and financial issues; oversee books and bookkeeper; meet monthly with board treasurer; review reports and year-end figures.
  • FUNDRAISERS AND SPECIAL EVENTS: Assist with sponsorships, planning and marketing of all fundraising and special events.

Compensation

  • Salary range: $70,000 to $90,000 (commensurate with experience)
