Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician / Med Tech provides direct care, supervision, and behavioral health support to residents in a residential treatment setting. This role combines hands-on behavioral health support with the safe and accurate administration of medications and treatments. The BHT/Med Tech assists residents with daily living activities, encourages recovery progress, supports treatment plan goals, promotes emotional stability, and serves as a liaison between the facility, providers, and outpatient teams regarding medication-related needs.
Key ResponsibilitiesBehavioral Health Support
- Provide behavioral health care and supervision to residents in accordance with their treatment plans.
- Assist residents with daily living skills such as hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks.
- Use de-escalation and crisis intervention skills to manage challenging behaviors.
- Support residents in achieving treatment goals and maintaining structure.
- Promote emotional stability and encourage recovery progress throughout the residential setting.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe residential environment.
Medication Administration
- Safely administer all prescribed medications and treatments as documented on the Medication Administration Record (MAR), following the 6 Rights of Medication Administration.
- Clearly explain medications to residents before administering, including the name and purpose of each medication.
- Accurately document all medication-related actions (given, refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed, or returned) on the MAR in accordance with facility policy.
Medication Management
- Count and sign off all narcotics with an approved staff member before accepting the medication.
- Order medications and treatments from the pharmacy, or notify the responsible party when supply is running low (7 days or less).
- Conduct weekly inspections to check for and remove any expired medications.
- Dispose of infectious and potentially infectious waste in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
Communication & Care Coordination
- Communicate with medical providers and outpatient care teams regarding medication usage, side effects, concerns, refills, and potential modifications.
- Transcribe doctors' orders accurately onto the MAR and lab sheets.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent, high-quality behavioral health support.
- Monitor resident safety and well-being, documenting observations and incidents as required.
Caregiving & Documentation
- Perform basic caregiving tasks including taking and recording vital signs, temperatures, blood pressure, and weights as needed.
- Maintain resident privacy and uphold the facility's care philosophy at all times.
- Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
- Follow all facility policies and procedures to ensure compliance and resident safety.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a behavioral health, mental health, or residential care setting (SMI population preferred).
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Med Tech, including medication administration and MAR documentation.
- Computer skills required.
- High school diploma or GED required; additional training in human services or behavioral health preferred.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and follow behavioral health care protocols.
- CPR/First Aid certification required, or ability to obtain within 2 days of hire.
- Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
