A Little Bit About the Position

The BI (Business Intelligence) Engineer IV’s purpose at Gemini is to organize and design: comprehensive data collection, organization, analysis, and support: sculpting enterprise-quality data warehouse solutions that support fast visualization providing actionable insights that support strategic business decisions. This role involves managing ETL, architecting, designing and implementing data warehouse solutions (including OLAP), complex dashboards and reports, and performing detailed statistical analyses using professional-grade indicators. As a member of the Engineering team, the BI Engineer IV is an experienced, detail-oriented, and self-motivated architect both in terms of data warehouse structure and data presentation.The BI (Business Intelligence) Engineer IV at Gemini is responsible for designing and implementing enterprise-quality data warehouse solutions. This critical role involves architecting and managing the complete data lifecycle—from comprehensive data collection and organization to detailed analysis. The ultimate goal is to sculpt solutions, including OLAP, that provide fast visualization and actionable insights, supporting strategic business decisions.

As an experienced, self-motivated, and detail-oriented member of the Engineering team, the BI Engineer IV will manage ETL processes, design complex dashboards and reports, and perform detailed statistical analyses using professional-grade indicators. This individual acts as a core architect for both data warehouse structure and data presentation.

  • Location: Hybrid / Remote in Rocklin, CA HQ
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Compensation: $145,000 - $174,000 Annually
Requirements:

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the BI team, design and engage engineering best practices (code review processes, git workflows, CI/CD)
  • Collaborate with the BI team to follow and keep up to date “Definition of Done” agreements
  • Collaborating with the BI team to architect and design modern, scalable warehouse architecture (Snowflake: dimensional models for reporting)
  • Evaluating and recommending data transformation methodologies, frameworks and tools
  • Collaborate with the Director of Engineering on Build vs. Buy decisions for tools and infrastructure
  • Collaborate with the BI Team to architect and design processes and standards for table design include primary and foreign keys, and audit columns
  • Optimize warehouse performance via partitioning, clustering, query design and other processes to balance fast execution versus spend
  • Collaborate with the BI Team to build repeatable transformation patterns and establish the standard use of frameworks
  • Collaborate with the BI Team to create automated data quality monitoring, including: quarantine tables, alerts, and error handling
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and correlations that drive business decisions
  • Architect and design operational dashboards that track pipeline health: data freshness, volume anomalies, schema drift, changes in error rates, etc.
  • Design and develop data warehouse structures to support Tableau explorer-users finding the linked data they need
  • Establish version control practices for analytics code and database objects
  • Perform complex statistical analyses and hypothesis testing to support strategic initiatives
  • Design and implement data processes and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Confidently provide detailed insights and recommendations based on data analysis to influence business strategies
  • Provide support on data use and analysis to BI Developers, including SQL, structuring views, creating stored procedures and database analysis tasks
  • Ensure compliance with data integrity, security, and company policies in all analytical tasks
  • Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices in data analysis and visualization
  • Initiate, manage, and deliver multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines while coordinating the BI Team closely
  • Continuously enhance technical skills and knowledge in data analysis and visualization
  • Regularly exercise independent judgment and discretion while performing complex work and collaborating with the Director of Engineering regularly
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Education and/or experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Information Management, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience level, required
    • 4-6 years of progressive professional experience in data work
    • Proven track record in conducting complex statistical analyses, executing projects, and generating actionable insights from large data sets
  • Skills:
    • Advanced time management and organizational skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Fundamental orientation to collaborative work styles
    • Ability to handle a high volume of work and function in a fast-paced environment, on deadline
    • Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
  • Technology:
    • Proficient using a computer, office software, video conferencing, and other computer programs including Google Workplace (Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Gmail, etc.)
    • Extensive experience in database management, database development, data querying with SQL
    • Proficiency in at least one coding language for the use of data analytics (e.g. Python, R, etc.)
    • Experience using data visualization tools like Tableau
    • Experience with ETL (extract, transform, load) best practices and tools
    • Advanced Proficiency in managing and developing data warehouse structures like materialized views and calculated fields to support fast analyses
    • Proficiency in developing and working with OLAP/data summary structures in a data warehouse setting
    • 3-5 Years of working experience with Snowflake
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Other:

Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation, including, but not limited to:

Travel may be required for this position up to 10% of working hours
