BI QA Engineer

Job Overview:

We are looking for an experienced BI QA Engineer with 4+ years of expertise in validating Business Intelligence solutions, ETL pipelines, and data quality across enterprise data platforms. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and performance of data assets that power business decisions across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement comprehensive test strategies, test plans, and test cases for BI reporting, data pipelines, and analytics solutions.
• Validate data accuracy in dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) by comparing against raw sources and data models.
• Perform SQL-based data validations on staging, warehouse, and reporting layers.
• Perform ETL testing to ensure correct data transformations, loads, and performance benchmarks.
• Collaborate closely with data engineers, BI developers, product managers, and analysts to understand business logic and translate it into testable requirements.
• Identify, log, and track defects using tools such as JIRA, ensuring timely resolution.
• Automate data quality checks where applicable using SQL scripts or tools like dbt tests, Great Expectations, or custom Python scripts.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to QA best practices in the data domain.
• Mentor junior QA team members and support test execution in sprints/releases.
• Own QA sign-offs for data-related releases and proactively report test coverage, risks, and issues.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 4+ years of experience in QA, with a strong focus on BI/Data/ETL testing.
• Advanced SQL skills — comfortable writing complex queries to validate large datasets.
• Hands-on experience testing BI reports and dashboards (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts (star/snowflake schemas, fact/dimension tables).
• Experience with ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, Talend, Apache Airflow, or dbt.
• Knowledge of data quality principles and test automation for data pipelines.
• Familiarity with defect management tools (e.g., JIRA) and version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Ability to thrive in Agile / Scrum environments.
