National Parks Conversation Association (NPCA), the nation’s oldest and largest national parks nonprofit advocate, has an exciting opportunity for Big Thicket Intern

The intern will support the Texas regional team in advancing conservation campaigns related to national parks, with a focus on the Big Thicket National Preserve. Key responsibilities include:

  • Drafting content and developing the framework for an educational website focused on the protection of Big Thicket National Preserve.
  • Assisting in the development of a regional park economic opportunity report.
  • Participating in meetings with park staff and conservation partners to support the Big Thicket program.
  • Helping create educational materials that highlight the significance of national park sites in Texas.
  • Supporting advocacy efforts aimed at ensuring funding and staffing for national parks.

Location: Remote, preferred location in southeast Texas

Schedule: Part-time; up to 20 hours per week

Compensation: $20-25 per hour

Tangible deliverables that will be achieved:

Content and framework for educational website related to protection of the Big Thicket National Preserve

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current graduate student or recent college graduate (within one year of graduation)
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or 3+ years in a related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Strategic thinking skills with the ability to organize and craft information in an educational and engaging format
  • Strong writing, research, organizational and editing skills
  • Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Independent self-starter and extremely detail-oriented
  • Enthusiasm, positive attitude, and interest in national park or environmental issues

Physical Effort and Dexterity: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is typically required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee may lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
