Bilingual Criminal Defense Paralegal Temporary Position

**Overview:** We are seeking a detail-oriented Paralegal to join our legal team in a temporary status while the current paralegal is on maternity leave. The expectation will be to train under the current paralegal for the Greenville Office prior to her maternity leave beginning and then continue in the position for 4-6 months. The ideal candidate will be direct client communication, assist attorneys in case management, handle client payments, and be responsible for court scheduling and filings. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to practice what they have learned and improve a business while making a difference in peoples lives. Spanish fluency is highly preferred.

**Responsibilities:**

Client Intake & Communication

  • Answer and triage incoming calls to the firm.
  • Assist with client intake through Clio grow.
  • Prepare and send fee agreements/retainer agreements to prospective clients.
  • Follow up with potential clients regarding signed agreements and retainers.
  • Maintain organized digital client records.

Case Management

  • Open and maintain case files within the law firm management system (Clio)
  • Receive daily mail and upload into calendar, digital files and physical files
  • Track case deadlines and court dates; (e.g., Sending out LOR’s, insuring discovery is received within the correct time frame; follow ups with courts)
  • Monitor case progress and ensure attorneys have required documentation
  • Upload discovery, evidence, and court filings to case files

Legal Support

  • Draft legal documents, motions, and correspondence for attorney review
  • Prepare court filings and submit documents electronically, by mail or in person where required
  • Coordinate with courts, clerks, prosecutors, and opposing counsel
  • Assist attorneys with trial preparation, case organization, reminders of court hearings and calendar conflicts.
  • Prepare client correspondence and case updates

Office Management

  • Oversee daily office operations and workflow
  • Maintain office policies, procedures, and internal systems
  • Manage office supplies, vendor communication, and administrative needs
  • Maintain any bills we pay up to date.

Client Relations

  • Provide status updates and respond to client inquiries
  • Maintain professional and compassionate communication with clients during criminal proceedings
  • Ensure client documents and payments are processed appropriately

Financial & Administrative Tasks

  • Track client retainers and payments
  • Coordinate with billing systems as needed
  • Ensure signed agreements and payment confirmations are properly documented

**Skills:** - Strong interpersonal skills - Proficiency in managing an attorneys calendar. Handling multiple tasks efficiently - Experience in discovery review, downloading and organization - Knowledge of legal drafting procedures - Excellent phone etiquette when communicating with clients and colleagues - - Experience in conducting client interviews within a legal setting - Understanding of basic legal principles - Spanish fluency is highly preferred.
