The Immigration Navigator position offers support to newly arrived Latino LGBTQ asylum seekers, especially in filing asylum applications before the one-year bar, and also in connecting our legal clients to a full range of services. The Immigrant Navigator accompanies newly arrived immigrants in locating required documents for their immigration cases, and accessing government services such as food, housing, and other social services. The Immigrant Navigator assists the immigration attorney in outreach to communities in our target area and assists the immigration attorney in preparing and filing an application for relief and other brief services.
Duties will include:
· Direct Service Programming
· Brief services related to client immigration needs
· Working with staff and community partners to aid community members with obtaining identity documents.
· Connecting community members with Coalition partners to receive support with employment, healthcare, childcare, gender-affirming items, etc.
· Providing translation where/when necessary to assist community members navigating various systems.
· Helping with the planning and execution of social programming to engage community members.
· Referring community members to relevant resources to address needs.
· Empowering peers to self-advocate and encouraging/developing their self-determination as LGBTQ individuals.
· Conducting short-term group navigation interventions
· Working collaboratively to design and conduct community outreach initiatives and screening events.
· Organizing and facilitating group- and community-level interventions to provide education, support and health navigation to members of the LGBTQ community.
· Screening and triaging callers and walk-in clients
Additional responsibilities include:
· Providing appropriate and accurate reports and other documentation in a timely manner.
· Attending staff, department meetings, trainings, and individual and clinical supervision as required.
· Collaborating with internal and external colleagues performing related work.
· Attending training and supervision meetings provided by outside agencies.
· Participating in planning and implementation of new interventions.
· Collaborating with clinical providers to provide quality care and a seamless continuum of services.
· Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications. A successful candidate will exhibit competency in the majority of these areas:
· Ability to speak, read, and write in English & Spanish.
· Cultural competence with regard to LGBTQ immigrants from Latin America.
· Experience in and/or working with queer and trans communities of color
· Knowledge about immigration topics and the asylum process
· Experience supporting and working with people with trauma and/or in crisis
· General knowledge of barriers our communities face in accessing gender affirming healthcare and equitable employment
· Experience in navigating resources and systems to overcome barriers and/or advocating for community members to overcome systemic barriers and challenges
· Experience in participating in coalitions and community collaborations
· Firsthand experience in managing volunteers and promoting leadership development
· Knowledge of and experience with peer support group models
· Experience in facilitating trainings focused on anti-oppression and social justice topics
· Experience with contributing to and/or running a community resource and referral program
· Experience in communicating with collaborators with varying perspectives and interests
· Experience managing larger projects that span multiple months
· Experience planning and facilitating community engagement events
· Experience using Google Suite and Microsoft Office products and basic data entry tools

Pay: $28.84 - $30.34 per hour
