Overview
Join our integrative healthcare team at OIH as a Bilingual (Spanish/English) Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, where your expertise will drive accurate reimbursement processes and ensure seamless medical record management. Responsibilities
- Review and interpret medical documentation to assign appropriate ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision) diagnosis codes, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) procedure codes, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications for billing accuracy.
- Ensure proper coding of chiropractic and mental health/psychiatric services using ICD-9 (International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision) where applicable, alongside current ICD-10 standards.
- Prepare and submit clean claims for insurance reimbursement using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems while adhering to payer guidelines.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, maintaining detailed records of all billing activities.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, ensure required prior authorization before certain procedures, explain billing procedures bilingually, and assist patients with questions related to their medical records or bills.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate medical records by organizing documentation related to medical coding, billing transactions, and patient information.
- Stay current with updates in medical terminology, coding regulations, and compliance standards to ensure ongoing accuracy and adherence to industry best practices.
- Complete receptionist duties as needed (lunch breaks, when billing tasks are completed).
<Skills>
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10/ICD-9 coding systems and CPT coding procedures for precise billing, particularly with chiropractic and behavioral health billing codes.
- Experience with medical billing software, EMR systems, and EHR platforms for efficient claim processing (Jane, Practice Fusion, and Therapy Notes are used at this office).
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology and healthcare documentation standards.
- Ability to communicate fluently in two languages, providing clear explanations to patients and team members alike.
- Knowledge of medical records management and compliance regulations related to privacy and security.
- Proven ability to navigate complex insurance policies, perform effective medical collections, and resolve billing discrepancies promptly.
