Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Success Initiatives, the Bilingual Pathway Navigator works following the Guided Pathways framework in collaboration with an advising case management team to provide advocacy and intervention on behalf of students completing degree and/or transfer programs in the pathway. This position includes a 5% bilingual pay differential.

Essential Tasks

  • Support YVC’s pathway advising activities
  • Perform targeted case management advising
  • Follow pathway students through the student life cycle: Serve as a point of contact for prospective students, admission, class registration; assist the pathway team
  • Proactively reach out to students to support timely completion of academic milestones, financial aid documentation, and other requirements as needed.
  • Advocate on behalf of students through all college systems
  • Provide training on the use of pathway advising tools (i.e., Pathway Advising Tool, EAB Navigate, PeopleSoft).
  • Coordinate communications to students with faculty pathway advisors and faculty counselors using the Pathway Advising tool, email, PeopleSoft and/or EAB Navigate tools.
  • Help students build self-identities as college students and pathway students; assisting them in developing their confidence and self-advocacy skills.
  • Provide pathway advising services including breaks between academic terms.
  • Assist in the development, preparation, and updating of pathway materials including print, online and electronic degree maps or, brochures under the direction of Guided Pathways Coordinator.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, including assigned conferences and workshops.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of advising in YVC’s Guided Pathways efforts.
  • Respond to student inquiries and correspondence regarding programs and certificates in the pathway.
  • Appropriately refer students to internal and external resources.
  • Maintain and monitor records of pathway student progress and report to advisors or others in the care network as needed.
  • Understand and maintain confidentiality of student records as appropriate.
  • Maintain a current understanding of financial aid and enrollment processes to support students in accessing information about financial aid, financial aid status, acquiring and submitting required documentation.
  • Assist with pathway and college-wide events related to advising duties such as New Student Orientation, Advising day, and other related events.
  • Participate in new initiatives aimed at retention in the pathway.
  • As a member of the Guided Pathways team, develop effective strategies and materials for recruiting students into the pathway’s programs and departments.
  • Help with implementing and training faculty on Navigate (student success management software).
  • Ensure that equal opportunity, diversity, and cultural competence are integrated in to this position’s duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated experience as student-centered/client-centered advocate.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be bilingual: English/Spanish
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Earned Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in case management, advising, financial aid, admissions, and/or tutoring in colleges or universities.
  • Excellent communications abilities, both verbal and written.
  • Bilingual written and verbal abilities in English and Spanish.
  • Expressed interest in creating equitable and inclusive learning and working environment.
  • Familiarity with Guided Pathways theory and practice.

  • Interpret/implement established policies and procedures.
  • Build effective working relationships.

  • Advising principles.
  • Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Office, Excel and Outlook.
  • The unique challenges of underserved populations in education.
