Bilingual Pharmacy Technician

Family First Health is seeking a Bilingual Pharmacy Technician for our George Street, York location. Candidates should have a working knowledge of medical terminology and be computer proficient or have the ability to learn. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparing patient prescriptions:
    • Selecting the appropriate drug, brand, form, strength and quantity;
    • Accurately count the number of pills, capsules, or tablets and package the required number in appropriate containers;
    • Accurately place labels with instructions on use and the expiry date on the containers of these medications.
  • Receive prescription requests:
    • Verify that all necessary information is available and correct on the electronic or written prescription;
    • Enter these details in the pharmacy database;
    • Information includes prescription, prescriber details, license number, signature, and patient details such as name, age, known allergies, medical conditions, etc.;
    • Confirm the medications are approved for specific indications and patient preference details;
    • In case of discrepancy, call the provider or patient to verify the information provided and accuracy before filling the prescription.
  • Patient and Customer Care:
    • Regular interaction with patients and customers;
    • Answering prescription-related questions;
    • Educating patients and caregivers on the appropriate use of medication, including frequency and method of intake or application;
    • Helping patients navigate the cost of their medications;
    • Answering the phone;
    • Referring patients to the pharmacist for more in-depth medical questions related to prescriptions;
    • Referring patients to clinical pharmacist or case manager for more nuanced assistance with complex needs.
  • Pricing prescriptions:
    • Conduct research to determine how much a particular medication costs;
    • Understand insurance coverage and patient eligibility for discounts or adjustments;
    • Process medical insurance claims for medications;
    • Understand application of 340B pricing for eligible patients and mediations.
    • Managing pharmacy inventory and storage:
    • Keep track of pharmacy inventory, looking for medications past their expiry dates and removing them;
    • Perform counts for specific medications, such as controlled substances;
    • Ensure storage conditions of medications are maintained and within temperature control as needed.
    • Other administrative tasks, including stocking shelves, answering telephone calls, cleaning pharmacy equipment, etc.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent experience/education
  • PTCB National Certification preferred; if not currently certified, ability to obtain within timeframe as determined by leadership.
  • Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
  • Previous experience as a pharmacy technician
  • Ability to quickly grasp and adapt to new procedures, technologies, and company policies
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcile figures necessary to perform essential job functions
  • Excellent organizational, customer service & phone etiquette skills
  • Ability to take initiative and proactively follow up on projects/tasks.
  • Ability to critically think which means the ability to think clearly and rationally about what to do or what to believe; understand logical connections between ideas; and identify, construct, and evaluate arguments
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work in, and respond appropriately to a demanding environment and multitask effectively
  • Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to communicate well and in a caring and supportive manner with individuals of all backgrounds.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, volunteers, and the public
  • Ability to be organized, proactive in follow-up and follow-through, and to juggle multiple competing tasks
