Bilingual Spanish Family Violence Risk Assessor

Responsibilities:

The Risk Assessor provides Family Violence Option (FVO) Risk Assessments, service recommendations, and waiver recommendations that are designed to lead to independence and employment-directed activities.

• Provide guidance to clients regarding ways to increase the physical safety of individuals escaping from domestic violence, including providing information on legal interventions (restraining orders, etc.).
• Ensures that any issues in relation to safeguarding children are brought to the immediate attention of the Director.
• Safety Assessment: Determines if an individual needs emergency shelter — meaning the client has nowhere else to go that is safe – then works with the County Social Services Agency (CSSA) and or domestic violence providers to seek safe shelter where the client can live in the short-term.
• Documentation: Includes summarizing and recording all relevant information; maintaining timely, accurate and appropriate assessment-related records (including complete Risk Assessments, Outcomes Reports and service log entries) in the client’s electronic file.
• Waiver/Service Recommendations: Concisely justifies the need for waivers on Outcomes reports or clearly communicates reasons against waiver recommendations, and need for other services.
• Crisis/safety Intervention: Includes the ability to recognize an emerging client crisis, such as imminent danger to the client (and children).
• Confidentiality: Includes the ability to maintain necessary safeguards to ensure confidentiality of clients and ethical standards of clinical practice. Reviews and obtains signed confidentiality releases from clients.
• Communicates with DCP&P: Identify recipient involvement with DCP&P and completes consultation regarding waiver and services being recommended with DCP&P; including any child safety issues or concerns.
• Communicates, or attempts to communicate, with CSSAs to conduct pre- and post-assessment consultations on FVO referrals.
• Knowledge of Domestic Violence and Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Community Resources for Spanish-speaking clients: To include all acts of physical, sexual, psychological, or economic violence and knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence; and how to make a referral for services (DV Counseling, legal interventions, etc.).
• Participates in monthly staff meetings and a minimum of one monthly individual supervision session with the FVO Director.

This is a work from home position with occasional travel in Northern NJ for in-person assessments. Candidates must reside in Northern NJ. Mileage will be reimbursed.

Qualifications:

Must have a Bachelor’s degree in social work or other related field and have a New Jersey Domestic Violence Specialist Certification, OR a Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or other related field with comprehensive knowledge of domestic violence. At least 2 years’ experience working directly with individuals impacted by domestic violence is required.

Professional-level fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) is required. Candidate must be able to translate complex legal and safety concepts into culturally accessible Spanish for survivors of domestic violence.

The Bilingual Risk Assessor provides critical, culturally responsive risk assessments to determine the need for DV services and waiver recommendations. Risk Assessors should have the capability to assess the recipient’s willingness to engage in services, general level of functioning, changing needs, risk of ongoing family violence, crisis intervention, education/employment opportunities, and safety planning.
