Billing & Coding Specialist

Role Description We are seeking a full-time, detail-oriented and energetic Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses, participating in billing processes, and ensuring seamless communication between healthcare providers, insurance companies and patients. Your expertise will help optimize revenue cycles, improve patient record accuracy, and support efficient healthcare delivery. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality patient care through precise coding and billing practices.


Duties

  • Review medical records and documentation to assign appropriate ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes for billing purposes
  • Prepare and submit accurate claims to insurance companies using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
  • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies
  • Demonstrate awareness of healthcare regulations, coding guidelines, and payer policies
  • Maintain detailed and organized medical records, including documentation of coding decisions and billing transactions
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies or incomplete records
  • Stay current on changes in medical terminology, coding standards (ICD-9, ICD-10), and billing procedures to ensure ongoing accuracy


Requirements

  • Minimum of 1-year medical coding experience; pediatrics experience preferred
  • Certification in medical coding (CPC or CCS)
  • Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or a related healthcare administrative role
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems and CPT coding procedures
  • Familiarity with DRG classifications used for outpatient reimbursement processes
  • Experience working with EMH/EHR systems and medical records management software; EPIC
  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology, healthcare documentation standards, and billing regulations
  • Ability to interpret complex medical records accurately and assign correct codes efficiently
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
