Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Billing Office Specialist to join our healthcare team. Responsibilities
- Review and process medical claims using Athena Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring accuracy in billing submissions.
- Apply appropriate coding conventions, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes, to classify diagnoses and procedures correctly.
- Verify medical records for completeness and accuracy before submitting claims.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, working closely with insurance companies and patients.
- Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities, corrections, and adjustments in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure proper documentation of medical records.
- Stay updated on industry changes related to medical coding standards, insurance policies, and regulatory requirements to ensure ongoing compliance.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or a related healthcare administrative role.
- Strong knowledge of CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with Athena EMR systems and EHR platforms used for billing and record management.
- Experience with medical collection processes and insurance claim follow-up procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to review complex medical records accurately.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients.
