Billing Specialist – California Workers’ Compensation (Behavioral Health)
Full-Time W-2 | Fully Remote (California-Based Candidates Preferred)
Compensation: $25–$30/hour (DOE)

We are a licensed behavioral health practice specializing in psychological treatment within the California workers’ compensation system. We are seeking an experienced Workers’ Compensation Billing Specialist to manage the full revenue cycle using DaisyBill, with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and timely follow-up. In this role, you will help streamline claims management, support clean claim submission, optimize accounts receivable, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality behavioral health services.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit behavioral health claims via DaisyBill in compliance with California workers’ compensation billing regulations.
- Manage billing workflows and queues to ensure timely submission, resubmission, and follow-up.
- Analyze Explanations of Review (EORs) to identify denials, underpayments, and billing issues; take appropriate corrective action.
- Proactively follow up with claims adjusters and payers on outstanding balances, unpaid claims, and disputed claims.
- Review billing-related documentation and medical records as needed to verify claim accuracy, support compliant billing, and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all billing activity and communications within billing and EHR systems.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to resolve documentation gaps, authorization issues, and billing discrepancies.
- Track aging reports and ensure consistent progress on accounts receivable.
- Adhere to HIPAA and California workers’ compensation documentation and privacy requirements in all billing communications and records.
- Stay current with changes in California workers’ compensation billing rules, payer requirements, and behavioral health billing standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with California workers’ compensation billing (required).
- Proficiency or strong familiarity with DaisyBill (strongly preferred).
- Experience in behavioral health or psychological billing.
- Solid understanding of California workers’ compensation fee schedules, billing rules, and timelines.
- Ability to independently interpret EORs and payer communications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in payer-facing interactions.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a billing queue with minimal supervision.
- Experience with EHR systems, billing platforms, and secure email communication.
Preferred
- Experience working with a small or mid-sized behavioral health or psychology practice.
- Experience handling reconsiderations, second bill reviews, and lien preparation.
Schedule and Work Structure
- Full-time W-2 position.
- Fully remote role; candidates must be able to work effectively from a home office environment.
- Core availability during standard business hours in Pacific Time is expected.
- Reports to the Finance Supervisor and works closely with clinical and administrative leadership.
Systems
- The practice currently uses DaisyBill and EHR systems including PracticeQ and IntakeQ.
