Bioanalytical Scientist – Protein & High-Resolution LC-MS

Andover, United States

Summary:

Spectrix Analytical Services, LLC is seeking a qualified Bioanalytical Bench Scientist to join a bioanalytical mass spectrometry group within the Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics, and Metabolism (PDM) department at our client’s site in Andover, MA.

This lab-based role focuses on supporting LC-MS-based bioanalytical activities and method development for biomarker and biomeasure analysis across a diverse portfolio. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal departments to design and execute new assay qualifications, establish quality control parameters, and contribute to transitioning tissue map data to protein LC-MS assays—particularly for biomarkers and targets that do not rely on antibody reagents, which are the primary quantification method in BM2.

This role involves implementing methodologies across multiple projects, improving sample preparation and quantification workflows, and contributing to both method development and internal assay qualification. Proficiency in following protocols, performing experiments, and achieving project goals is essential.

Primary Role Responsibilities:

  • Setting up, troubleshooting, and maintaining LC-MS instrumentation, with a strong emphasis on high-resolution systems.
  • Prepare biological samples (serum/plasma/tissues) for LC-MS analysis, including multi-step extraction and purification workflows.
  • Perform precise liquid handling using Eppendorf Repeater and single-channel pipettes (2–1000 µL), especially in 96-well plate formats.
  • Collaborate on experimental design and execution of LC-MS quantitative assays for biomarkers and targets not reliant on antibody reagents.
  • Conduct analytical experiments, method development, and qualification of internal assays.
  • Support the transition of tissue map data to protein LC-MS assays for non-antibody-based quantification.
  • Create calibration curves for protein concentration and interpret experimental results.
  • Troubleshoot assay performance and maintain LC-MS instrumentation (e.g., Thermo Exploris, Bruker Timstof).
  • Document results in electronic lab notebooks and communicate findings to team members.
  • Contribute to process improvements and implementation of methodologies across multiple portfolio projects.

Job Expectations

  • On-site work required Monday through Friday during core business hours (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Successfully execute complex bioanalytical procedures, including sample preparation, instrument operation and troubleshooting.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS (5+ years) or MS (3+ year) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, or a related field (Non-PhD position)
  • Experience with LC-MS biological sample preparation involving multi-step isolation, purification, and concentration of analytes.
  • Familiarity with LC-MS instrumentation and software (e.g., Thermo Exploris, Xcalibur; Bruker and Timstof experience is a plus).
  • Strong data organization, analysis, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a matrixed team environment.
