JOB DESCRIPTION – IGCSE / AS & A LEVEL BIOLOGY & PHYSICS TEACHER

Job Purpose
The Biology and Physics Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in accordance with the Cambridge / British Curriculum (IGCSE, AS & A Level). The role involves preparing students for external examinations, fostering scientific thinking, and supporting students’ academic and personal development in a safe and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities1. Teaching & Curriculum Delivery
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in Biology and Physics following the Cambridge International Curriculum (IGCSE, AS & A Level).
- Develop lesson plans, schemes of work, and curriculum resources aligned with syllabus objectives.
- Deliver theoretical and practical lessons to enhance student understanding of scientific concepts.
- Integrate laboratory experiments and demonstrations into lessons where appropriate.
- Use differentiated teaching methods to accommodate different learning abilities.
2. Assessment & Examination Preparation
- Prepare students for Cambridge IGCSE, AS & A Level examinations.
- Conduct regular formative and summative assessments.
- Design and mark tests, assignments, and laboratory reports.
- Analyze student performance and provide targeted support where necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement.
3. Laboratory & Practical Work
- Supervise laboratory activities and ensure safe use of scientific equipment and chemicals.
- Work closely with the Laboratory Technician to prepare experiments and practical materials.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the science laboratory.
4. Classroom & Student Management
- Maintain a positive and disciplined classroom environment.
- Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry.
- Support students’ academic and emotional development.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to students.
5. Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress.
- Participate in Parent-Teacher Meetings, staff meetings, and school events.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Science Department for curriculum planning and improvement.
- Contribute to school academic planning and curriculum development.
6. Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in professional development programs and training.
- Support school extracurricular activities such as science clubs, competitions, and exhibitions.
- Follow school policies, safeguarding guidelines, and professional standards.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by school management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Physics, or related Science field
- Teaching Qualification (PGCE / B.Ed. or equivalent)
- Minimum 3–5 years of teaching experience in IGCSE / AS & A Level curriculum
- Strong knowledge of Cambridge International Examination standards
- Experience in conducting science laboratory practicals
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
