Biology Teacher

Reports To: Vice Principal of Academics/Department Chair Job Status: 10-month, full-time, exempt

Salary Information: Salary will be based upon compensation guidelines, with a range of $57,200 - $85,098. This
position is eligible for benefits (medical, dental, vision), generous PTO and holiday schedule, 401(k) savings plan
with school match, higher education tuition reimbursement, and JSerra tuition discount of 50% off base tuition for
each dependent child or legal guardian designated child who attends JSerra.

Description: JSerra Catholic High School Science Department is seeking an exceptional high school teacher for
Biology for the 2025-2026 school year. Classes may include conceptual biology, college prep, or AP Biology. The
ideal candidate for this position will be an individual who enjoys working with high school-aged students and their
families. Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate and inspire learning are critical in this position.
Applicants should have the ability to participate in shared decision-making in a team environment, have excellent
oral and written communication skills, and be proficient in using technology.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons to students in alignment with NGSS and departmental curriculum goals
  • Develop and implement laboratory experiences to reinforce biological concepts and scientific methods
  • Assess, record, and maintain student progress via the school’s online grading system (Schoology)
  • Provide written assessments, reports, and references relating to individual students
  • Advise and collaborate with the Department Chair, Vice Principal of Academics, and other teachers in the

preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, and methods of teaching and
assessment

  • Participate in school in-service meetings, education, and training courses
  • Participate in staff, group, or other meetings related to the school
  • Supervise students outside of the classroom as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including writing, speaking, and presenting
  • Proficiency in the development of curriculum and assessment at the secondary level
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety and the use of preferred equipment
  • Ability to integrate faith and reason through the lens of biological science
  • Prior experience and familiarity with school software systems and tools, including Schoology, preferred

Education & Experience
• A bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field is required
  • A single-subject teaching credential or master’s degree or Ph.D. in Biology or a related discipline is
preferred
  • A minimum of three years of combined classroom teaching experience at the secondary level is preferred.
