Fairbanks Morse Defense is seeking a skilled and motivated Nickel Aluminum Bronze (NiAlBr) and Stainless-Steel Grinder/Finisher to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the precision and quality of our components, meeting the high standards required for defense applications. The ideal candidate will have experience in grinding, rough finishing, excavation, and final finishing/polishing of Nickel Aluminum Bronze alloys and stainless steel. Flexibility, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence are essential as we work to meet tight timelines and deliver exceptional products to our customers.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform grinding, rough finishing, excavation, and final finishing/polishing of Nickel Aluminum Bronze (NiAlBr) and stainless-steel components to meet specifications.
- Utilize hand and power tools to achieve precise finishes and tolerances.
- Work collaboratively with the production and quality teams to ensure compliance with engineering drawings and customer requirements.
- Stand, bend, and work in physically demanding positions for up to 8 hours per shift.
- Lift and maneuver materials weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Maintain flexibility to work any assigned shift, including nights and weekends, to meet production deadlines.
- Travel to local and out-of-state shipyards as required for repair and overhaul work.
- Obtain and maintain certifications for operating cranes, forklifts, skid-steers, manlifts, and scissor lifts.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Support other production tasks as needed to meet operational demands.
Qualifications and Requirements:- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training is a plus.
- Previous experience in grinding, rough finishing, excavation, and final finishing/polishing of NiAlBr alloys and stainless steel is highly desired.
- Previous experience in applying and fitting edge gages and cylindrical gages to required tolerances.
- Ability to stand, bend, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. safely and effectively.
- Ability to work / polish at height from manlift basket and or scaffolding.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools, with a strong emphasis on safety and precision.
- Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to changing schedules as production demands evolve.
- Willingness to travel locally and out of state as needed for repair and overhaul work.
- Must meet requirements for Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
- Ability to obtain certifications for crane, forklift, skid-steer, manlift, and scissor lift operation.
- Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A proactive and self-motivated attitude with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:- Previous experience in a defense or shipyard environment is a plus.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and best practices in an industrial setting.
Work Environment:
This position will involve working in a manufacturing or shipyard environment, which may include exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required to ensure safety.
