The Independent Contractor BCBA provides Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services including assessment, treatment planning, supervision, and clinical oversight for assigned clients in accordance with BACB ethical standards, California regulations, and payer requirements. This role requires a defined weekly time commitment across direct observation, field supervision, and documentation to ensure high-quality, compliant service delivery.Required Weekly Time Commitment

The BCBA is expected to maintain a minimum of 20–30 hours per week, allocated as follows (final hours may vary based on caseload):

1. Direct Client Observation & Assessment

Minimum: 8–12 hours per week

Includes:

  • Direct observation of clients in home, school, or community settings
  • Functional behavior assessments (FBA)
  • Skills assessments and reassessments
  • Modeling intervention strategies
  • Direct caregiver or staff coaching during sessions

Direct observation must meet payer and Regional Center requirements and support clinical decision-making.

2. Field Supervision & Staff Oversight

Minimum: 6–10 hours per week

Includes:

  • In-person or telehealth supervision of behavior technicians (RBTs/BTs)
  • Performance feedback and competency monitoring
  • Treatment integrity checks
  • Supervision documentation in compliance with BACB and funder standards

Supervision frequency must align with BACB supervision requirements and funding source guidelines.

3. Clinical Documentation & Administrative Duties

Minimum: 4–6 hours per week

Includes:

  • Treatment plan development and updates
  • Progress notes and data review
  • Authorization reports and reassessments
  • Client discharge summaries
  • Email and coordination with interdisciplinary teams

Documentation must be completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with California and funding-source standards.

4. Caregiver Training & Collaboration

Minimum: 2–4 hours per week

Includes:

  • Parent/caregiver training sessions
  • Collaboration with schools, Regional Centers, and allied providers
  • Attendance at team meetings (as clinically indicated)

Total Weekly Hours

  • Minimum Expected Commitment: 20 hours/week
  • Typical Full Caseload Commitment: 25–30 hours/week

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct functional assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Supervise and support direct service staff
  • Ensure fidelity of ABA interventions
  • Monitor client progress and modify treatment as needed
  • Maintain ethical and professional standards per the BACB
  • Ensure compliance with California funding and documentation requirements
  • Projects and cases assigned by Regional Clinical Director

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Current BCBA certification in good standing
  • Active eligibility to practice in the State of California
  • Experience providing ABA services in home, school, or community settings
  • Knowledge of Regional Center, insurance, or Medi-Cal ABA requirements preferred
  • Reliable transportation for field-based services
