Summary : Manages services and operates the childcare program in conformance with institutional regulations and state day care licensing provisions. Plans, facilitates and provides quality care in an environment that allows children to develop to their potential with engaging activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Clearly and effectively articulates the philosophies and goals of the childcare program.
  • Plans and implements activities, lesson plans and enrichment that are in accordance with applicable learning standards.
  • Participates in the children’s activities by interacting, observing, extending language experiences, modeling desired behavior and facilitating life skills and conflict resolution as using only positive guidance techniques.
  • Supervises children, maintains ratios and keeps a daily attendance roster, including children going to and from the program.
  • Reviews monthly sign-in sheets daily for parent’s signatures and correct times.
  • Provides a clean and organized environment where children are safe, nurtured and valued.
  • Arranges the environment so that it is intentional, engaging and developmentally appropriate.
  • Follows rules, regulations and policies of the following regulatory agencies: Arizona Department of Child Care Licensing, Department of Economic Security, Quality First Criteria, National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Benson School District Governing Board Policies and Procedures.
  • Builds relationships by communicating positively and effectively with parents on a daily basis.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with representatives of local and state agencies, families and the public.
  • Effectively work with a diverse population, including those with various individual needs.
  • Recruit and schedule children for the childcare program and maintain waiting list.
  • Maintain accurate records on children enrolled in the program to include their development, attendance, health and behavior.
  • Confer with parents on a regular basis to discuss the development of their enrolled children.
  • Assist with problems encountered by staff for resolution.
  • Validate proper certification and maintain compliance of childcare staff.
  • Assist childcare staff in preparing and presenting age appropriate programs and activities.
  • Plan, develop, schedule and provide in-service training for staff.
  • Order and maintain childcare supplies and equipment.
  • Complete all administrative and business functions timely including reporting, recordkeeping, billing, late payments and follow-up actions when necessary and recording payments.
  • Manage and maintain childcare database, software and parent portal.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for training and licensure compliance of the childcare support staff and providing support for before school care, after school care, summer programs, and preschool as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • At least 21 years of age and documentation of (1) of the following:
    • 12 months experience, high school diploma or GED AND (3) credit hours in early childhood OR at least (30) training hour in early childhood, child development or closely related field.
    • 12 months experience AND NAC/CDA/CCP/CC OR at least (6) credit hours in early childhood, child development or closely related field.
    • 6 months experience AND an associate degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, child development or closely related field.
    • 3 months experience AND a bachelor degree from as accredited college or university in early childhood, child development or closely related field.

ABILITIES Ability to demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in working with computers and other types of technology.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to listen and obtain clarification. Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively to students, parents, employees, and members of the community. Ability to write activity/lesson plans, routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with students who have special needs.

CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS Ability to manage difficult or emotional student or customer situations. Responds promptly to customer needs, solicits feedback to improve service. Responds to requests for service and assistance. Meets commitments.
