BOM Specialist

Sutphen is seeking a Bill of Materials Specialist to join our growing team in Urbana, Ohio.

In this role you will be responsible to ensure the Bill of Material (BOM) is accurate to actual production usage, as well as accurate production orders and picklists for consumption aligning with the Value Stream’s production schedule. Additionally, the specialist helps ensure that items are available to production associates when needed for assembly through kits, point-of-use inventory, purchased and/or make-in-house items. The BOM Specialist will also be responsible for in-process BOM audits to ensure and enhance both planning and accuracy of the Bills of Material.

Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Routes

  • Create well-architected BOMs that align with the way in which the product is built
  • Generate product-specific Routes that align with the actual operations being conducted in production
  • Tie individual items and assemblies on BOMs to specific operations within the Route

Manage Item Master/Item Creation

  • Create items in ERP system (Dynamics 365) from Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs)
  • Assign default inventory locations and unit of measure for newly-created items
  • Ensure that engineering drawing and description match for newly-created items
  • Maintain Item Master to reflect change in item revision, usage, obsolescence, etc.

Manage Raw Material Consumption

  • Coordinate with production associates to ensure that raw material used during fabrication is captured
  • Ensure that all captured raw materials are allocated to the appropriate static BOM
  • Monitor frequency of use and recommend that common items be drawn and released by engineering

Maintain Configurator

  • Fix errors in matrices or rules when issues occur on the manufacturing portion
  • Write/repair manufacturing rules
  • Design and create matrices for manufacturing portion of sales options

Lean Initiatives

  • Lead/assist with 5S initiatives
  • Improve efficiency by placing items at point of use, ensuring proper labeling, driving creation of standards, etc.
  • Assist in determining storage method, reorder points/quantities, and signal method for Kanban items

Auditing

  • Audit completed assemblies and/or trucks
  • Determine level of completion for Work In Process (WIP) assemblies
  • Update BOMs with actual inventory used in assembly
  • Complete documentation for Sutphen Total Quality (binders that follow each truck through production)

Production Planning

  • Plan order of assembly within BOMs through operations
  • Produce picklists for production kits
  • Work with supervisors to plan audits and understand production status
  • Review items purchased to ensure production needs and proper consumption
  • Review shop orders to identify potential material and production constraints
