Senior Construction Bookkeeper / Construction Accountant

We are partnered with a rapidly growing specialty construction contractor operating across NYC, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey that is seeking a Senior Construction Bookkeeper / Construction Accountant to join their team onsite in Garden City.

The company has built a strong reputation through repeat private-sector clientele and long-standing industry relationships.

With significant project backlog ($100m) and continued expansion plans, this is an excellent opportunity to join a business entering a major growth phase.

This is a high-ownership role working directly alongside company ownership and operations leadership, supporting the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the business. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping streamline processes, maintain accurate project financials and support operational cash flow management across multiple active projects.

There is also strong long-term growth potential for someone looking to progress into a future Controller-level position as the business continues to scale.

Responsibilities

• Full-cycle bookkeeping and day-to-day accounting operations
• AP / AR management
• AIA billing and requisition processing
• Journal entries and reconciliations
• Job costing, project allocations and profitability tracking
• Vendor payment coordination and cash flow support
• Working closely with ownership, operations and project management teams
• Supporting month-end close and quarterly CPA reviews
• Assisting with process improvements and accounting workflow organization

Requirements

• Construction accounting or construction bookkeeping experience
• Strong understanding of AIA billing, job costing and WIP reporting
• Experience within subcontractor, civil or specialty construction environments preferred
• Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
• Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
• Hands-on mentality with strong attention to detail

This is a fully onsite role based in Garden City, NY.
