Part-Time: 10-18 Hours per month / flexible scheduling
This is a hybrid position combining work-from-home and on-site work each week.

General Functions
We are looking for a Bookkeeper to maintain accurate financial records, support monthly close processes, and assist with compliance-related accounting activities for a not-for-profit organization.
Position Description / Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger within QuickBooks Online.
- Record and classify financial transactions in accordance with established accounting policies.
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations and investigate variances.
- Track organizational expenditures, including credit card activity, and ensure supporting documentation is maintained.
- Prepare monthly financial reports (e.g., income statement, balance sheet, budget-to-actual).
- Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable records, including invoicing and collections tracking.
- Record and reconcile transactions from payment platforms (e.g., PayPal, Square, RegFox).
- Maintain organized electronic financial records in accordance with document retention policies.
- Support payroll-related recordkeeping (e.g., reviewing reports, maintaining support files; payroll processing may be outsourced).
- Monitor and record interest and other investment-related activity, if applicable.
- Assist with year-end financial reporting and support external tax preparation (e.g., Form 990) by ensuring records are complete and accurate.
- Communicate regularly with the Executive Director and Treasurer regarding financial results and variances.
- Ensure proper segregation of duties where feasible in a small organization environment.
- Maintain supporting documentation for all transactions to support audit or review requirements.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with not-for-profit accounting practices (e.g., tracking restricted vs. unrestricted funds, if applicable).
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- Prior bookkeeping or accounting experience (preferably in a small organization or not-for-profit environment).
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP applicable to not-for-profit entities (ASC 958—Not-for-Profit Entities).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general Microsoft Office tools.
Preferred
- Experience with not-for-profit accounting, including fund tracking and donor-related transactions.
- Familiarity with payment platforms (e.g., PayPal, Square, RegFox).
- Ability to periodically work on-site at the STEM Forward Office (MKE 53202)

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
