Construction Bookkeeper (Part-Time)
20–30 hours per week | Potential for more as the company grows

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented, construction-experienced Bookkeeper to take full ownership of our bookkeeping and financial systems. This role is designed to remove the owner from day-to-day bookkeeping and support profitable growth through accurate job costing, overhead tracking, and financial reporting.
You will work closely with our Project Management and Estimating teams to ensure projects are priced correctly, costs are tracked accurately, and net margin goals are achieved. This is a hands-on, systems-focused role with real impact on company performance.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesBookkeeping & Financial Management
- Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks (Online or Desktop)
- Receive and apply customer payments
- Upload, categorize, and verify vendor bills prior to payment
- Reconcile all incoming and outgoing transactions weekly
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and asset-related debts monthly
- Execute credit card payments and monitor balances
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready balance sheets and financial records
Job Costing & Project Financials
- Create and maintain job costing records for all projects
- Track real-time project costs in coordination with Project Managers
- Verify estimated vs. actual costs and flag discrepancies
- Produce job costing reports at project milestones and upon completion
- Present weekly and monthly job costing summaries to leadership
- Ensure projects meet or exceed net margin targets
Overhead Tracking & Pricing Support
- Track and allocate overhead costs across departments and projects
- Monitor overhead growth as the company scales
- Support and manage pricing structure adjustments as operational costs increase
- Work with leadership and estimating to ensure pricing reflects:
- True overhead burden
- Labor efficiency
- Target net margins
- Identify trends in overhead costs and recommend improvements
Payroll, Invoicing & Change Orders
- Submit payroll to the company’s payroll provider accurately and on time
- Create customer invoices in QuickBooks
- Amend invoices with approved change orders as needed
- Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure billing aligns with project progress
Overhead & Expense Control
- Manage and execute overhead bill payments
- Reconcile overhead expense categories
- Monitor recurring expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Support leadership with clear overhead reporting
Documentation & Organization
- Save all financial documents to their correct digital or physical file
- Maintain organized, traceable, and auditable records
- Assist with improving bookkeeping systems and processes
- Support long-term scalability through clean documentation
Requirements
- 5+ years of bookkeeping experience in construction or skilled trades
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks
- Solid understanding of job costing, overhead allocation, and margins
- Experience reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheets
- Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and invoicing
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate with operations teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with estimating or project management teams
- Familiarity with construction change orders
- Experience improving bookkeeping systems or SOPs
- Washington State construction bookkeeping experience
