We are seeking a detail-oriented, process driven Bookkeeper to support the financial operations of our residential portfolio and short-term rental division.
Position Overview
The Bookkeeper will own the day to day property-level bookkeeping functions that ensure accurate financial records, timely bill processing, and reliable owner reporting.
This role supports the Property Accountant and serves as a critical execution partner in maintaining clean books, consistent processes, and dependable monthly financial cycles.
Success in this role means:
- Property-level books are accurate and up to date
- Bills are processed correctly and on schedule
- Tenant accounts are clean and reconciled
- Owner statements go out accurately and on time
- Financial documentation is organized and audit ready
Core Responsibilities
Property-Level Bookkeeping
- Process Accounts Receivable (A/R) and Accounts Payable (A/P)
- Post rents, management fees, leasing fees, and renewal fees accurately
- Calculate and verify management and leasing fees
- Prepare vendor batches for Property Accountant approval
- Assist with property-level reconciliations as directed
Tenant Accounting & Compliance
- Process tenant charges and credits, including:
- Security deposit accounting
- Repair/damage chargebacks
- Utility charges
- Minimum insurance charges
- Application fee refunds
- Monitor tenant accounts in arrears and issue Pay-or-Quit notices
- Maintain accurate documentation for compliance and reporting
Owner Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare and send monthly owner statements and correspondence
- Maintain organized storage and coding of:
- Vendor bills
- Insurance records
- 1099 documentation
- Ensure financial documentation is complete and audit-ready
Cross-Team Support
- Work closely with the Property Accountant and Property Management team to obtain bill approvals
- Assist in monitoring and routing incoming calls from vendors, owners, and residents
- Support ongoing bookkeeping and financial improvement initiatives
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Basic bookkeeping experience required
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Ability to take direction and execute consistently
- Highly organized with strong follow-through
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities on recurring monthly cycles
- Ability to maintain composure under deadlines
Preferred Experience
- Real estate or property management bookkeeping experience
- AppFolio experience strongly preferred
- QuickBooks experience preferred
- Experience with other property management software a plus
Work Schedule & Compensation
- Part-time (20 hours per week)
- Flexible schedule between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday–Friday
- Schedule determined in coordination with supervisor
- Remote work eligibility after 6 months
- Pay commensurate with experience
- Background check required
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
