Role Purpose
The Bookkeeper/HR Admin plays a critical role in maintaining the financial accuracy, stability, and operational efficiency of JJ Builders. This position is responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting functions, with a strong emphasis on QuickBooks accuracy and construction job cost tracking. The role supports leadership by providing reliable financial data that enables informed decision-making.
This person must be organized and able to make high-level decisions and direct team players as needed to fulfill objectives
Key Responsibilities
Core Accounting Functions
- Maintain accurate and timely financial records in QuickBooks
- Process accounts payable and receivable
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards on a regular basis
- Assist with monthly close and year-end reporting
- Maintain organized accounting documentation and audit-ready records
Construction Accounting Support
- Track job costs by project, including labor, materials, and subcontractors
- Support progress billings, retainage tracking, and change orders
- Coordinate closely with project management to ensure accurate cost allocation
- Assist with payroll processing and labor cost reporting
HR/Hiring Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities
- Support tax preparation and compliance by coordinating with external CPA
- Ensure accounting practices align with company policies and best practices
- Identify opportunities to improve hiring workflows and controls
- Making sure employee paperwork is up to date with current compliance
- Doing in-person interviews for hiring and assisting with onboarding
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling confidential information
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of QuickBooks experience
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles (AP, AR, reconciliations, financial statements)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a construction company
- Familiarity with job costing and construction billing
- Experience supporting small to mid-sized businesses
- Previous HR experience

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 45.0 per week
