Bookkeeper/Human Resources

Role Purpose

The Bookkeeper/HR Admin plays a critical role in maintaining the financial accuracy, stability, and operational efficiency of JJ Builders. This position is responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting functions, with a strong emphasis on QuickBooks accuracy and construction job cost tracking. The role supports leadership by providing reliable financial data that enables informed decision-making.

This person must be organized and able to make high-level decisions and direct team players as needed to fulfill objectives

Key Responsibilities

Core Accounting Functions

  • Maintain accurate and timely financial records in QuickBooks
  • Process accounts payable and receivable
  • Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards on a regular basis
  • Assist with monthly close and year-end reporting
  • Maintain organized accounting documentation and audit-ready records

Construction Accounting Support

  • Track job costs by project, including labor, materials, and subcontractors
  • Support progress billings, retainage tracking, and change orders
  • Coordinate closely with project management to ensure accurate cost allocation
  • Assist with payroll processing and labor cost reporting

HR/Hiring Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Support tax preparation and compliance by coordinating with external CPA
  • Ensure accounting practices align with company policies and best practices
  • Identify opportunities to improve hiring workflows and controls
  • Making sure employee paperwork is up to date with current compliance
  • Doing in-person interviews for hiring and assisting with onboarding
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling confidential information

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of QuickBooks experience
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles (AP, AR, reconciliations, financial statements)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a construction company
  • Familiarity with job costing and construction billing
  • Experience supporting small to mid-sized businesses
  • Previous HR experience

  • Financial records are accurate, timely, and well-organized
  • Job cost data is reliable and supports project-level decision-making
  • Deadlines are met consistently without sacrificing accuracy
  • Communication with leadership and project teams is clear and proactive

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 45.0 per week

Work Location: In person
