BPP Property Tax Consultant

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Business Personal Property (BPP) Consultant to manage the rendition, valuation, and appeal process for our business assets. The primary goal is to ensure compliance with Texas property tax codes while aggressively pursuing tax savings through accurate asset depreciation and market value appeals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rendition Filing: Prepare and file annual Business Personal Property Renditions with the Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD) and surrounding counties.
  • Asset Categorization: Review fixed asset listings to ensure equipment, furniture, and improvements are categorized correctly to maximize depreciation.
  • Tax Bill Auditing: Review annual tax statements for accuracy and identify opportunities for protests or corrections.
  • Value Appeals: Represent the business at Appraisal Review Board (ARB) hearings to protest over-valuations of personal property.
  • Exemption Management: Identify and apply for any applicable tax exemptions (e.g., Freeport, Interstate Commerce, or solar exemptions).

Qualifications & Skills

  • Licensing: Must be a Registered Property Tax Consultant in the State of Texas.
  • Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of experience specifically handling BPP in Harris County or surrounding counties.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Texas Property Tax Code and Appraisal valuation methods.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to review accounting ledgers and reconcile "book value" vs. "market value."
  • Communication: Strong negotiation skills for informal and formal hearings with county appraisers.
