The Bridge Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, supervising, and maintaining bridge structures for highway, railway, or waterway projects. The role ensures technical excellence, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards throughout the project life cycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review bridge designs, drawings, and specifications in accordance with IRC, IS, AASHTO, or relevant standards.
- Conduct structural analysis and load calculations for new and existing bridges.
- Provide technical support for tendering, estimation, and feasibility studies.
- Coordinate with survey, geotechnical, and design teams for data collection and integration.
- Inspect construction works to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with approved drawings.
- Prepare method statements, quality control checklists, and work schedules for bridge construction.
- Monitor site progress, prepare daily/weekly reports, and highlight risks or delays.
- Support maintenance planning and rehabilitation of existing bridges.
- Liaise with consultants, clients, and contractors to resolve design or execution issues.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations and environmental guidelines during all phases.
Qualifications & Skills
- B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering (Master’s in Structural Engineering preferred).
- 3–8 years of relevant experience in bridge design and construction (highways/railways).
- Strong understanding of structural analysis, RCC/PSC design, and foundation systems.
- Proficiency in software such as STAAD.Pro, MIDAS Civil, AutoCAD, and MS Office.
- Good knowledge of codes and standards (IRC, IS, AASHTO, BS/Eurocodes).
- Strong problem-solving, planning, and coordination abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
