Job Description:
Coppin State University, a fully accredited institution and a member of the University System of Maryland, is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Budget Analyst to support the institution's operating budget and financial planning functions. Reporting to the Budget Director, this role is essential in ensuring accurate budget development, financial data integrity, and institutional compliance across all university divisions.
Responsibilities:
  • Support the Budget Director in university-wide budget planning, development, and analysis.
  • Assist in preparing the annual operating budget and institutional budget requests.
  • Assist with the coordination of campus-wide budget process, including timeline development, data compilation, and variance analysis.
  • Conduct detailed statistical analyses of revenues and expenditures for forecasting and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with Business Managers across departments to review budget activity and align spending with strategic priorities.
  • Perform monthly budget-to-actual reporting for all university divisions and highlight variance trends.
  • Monitor the use of restricted and special funds to ensure alignment with approved purposes.
  • Ensure budget data accuracy in the university’s ERP systems (Workday and Adaptive Planning).
  • Deliver training on budgetary processes and financial systems to operational teams.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating internal budgeting procedures and documentation.
  • Serve as the backup to the Budget Director as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field from an accredited university.
  • Master’s degree in business, finance, or accounting is highly preferred.
EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in budgeting/accounting and/or managing fiscal services such as budget development, forecasting, or analysis of financial data.
  • Experience using Workday Financials and Adaptive preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Advanced analytical and financial modelling skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proven experience managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in financial transactions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
  • Experience interpreting and presenting complex financial data to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and a variety of computer software packages.
  • Ability to implement and adapt to change in dynamic environments
